BORIS
IN MINNEAPOLIS AGAIN!
(with the Buzzcocks, etc.)
On November 6th, 1999, Boris The Sprinkler came back to Minneapolis, this time with Down By Law, the Lunachicks, and the Buzzcocks. It was a very interesting show at First Avenue. For starters, it was an ID show but I talked my mom into getting me in, because they'll let people under 21 into ID shows with a parent. I thought, ah well, if anything it will be a good experience for my mom.
Boris The Sprinkler, my all time current favorite band, played first and it was so fun. Nørb was dressed up with a weird mask and a weird shirt and cape this time and they were all wearing weird glasses and sunglasses. It was cool. They did a usual good set and when the time came to play "Drugs and Masturbation" Nørb said, "Sheena's mom is here, and we don't want to offend her, so we're changing the name of this song from 'Drugs and Masturbation' to 'Hogs and Education.'" It was so funny. However he didn't actually change the words, but not like my mom noticed anyway. They played some songs that they apparently haven't played for a while such as "West Of The East" and "(She Digs My) New Wave Records" so that was cool. They also did a couple of covers including a song by 999 during which Nørb proceeded to throw rolls of toilet paper into the audience. It was maybe the funniest thing I've seen at a show in a while. Some tough looking guys were dancing around in the toilet paper and people were throwing it back at the band. It was hilarious! Everyone was having so much fun. Their set was over too soon. Their set is always over too soon, but I guess that's just the way it is.
Down By Law played next, and they were good. I didn't get any pictures of them, because I'm a big dork. The Lunachicks played third, and they were pretty good, too. Even my mom liked them. They were pretty crazy. The Buzzcocks played last and they rocked. They played for a really long time.
All in all, it was a really
good show and I also got to harass and hang out with Boris The
Sprinkler again (I like harassing bands, even including my own,
in case you haven't noticed by now). Now one of these days, maybe
Boris will play someplace cooler like the Foxfire . . . .

Thanks to Mom for getting
me in, and to the bands for a great show. Maybe someday First
Avenue will have an all ages show again.
